Chapter Fourteen

When Charley opened her eyes, Dog’s warmth still rested against her back, like they hadn’t moved all night. Or morning, since they had been up in the wee hours. It scared her how much she liked the feel of his arms around her. Strong. Solid. Truly sublime.

Her face heated at the memory of what they had done—of what she had done. She couldn’t believe she had been so bold. Taking things in her own hands, in her own mouth like that, was a little out of character. Sure, she’d given a blow job before when a boyfriend wanted it, but never with the enthusiasm she’d displayed with Dog.

She heaved a sigh. What he must think of her. Being assertive in a business meeting where she had degrees and experience to back her up was one thing. Trying out something she’d only experienced in her imagination was quite another.

And doing it here, in her father’s cottage, well, he wouldn’t have liked that at all.

A glance at a blinking digital clock on the nightstand let her know the power was back on but did nothing to indicate the time. But it was definitely morning, if the hardness against her butt was any gage.

Her stomach growled what sounded like the national anthem, and Dog’s hand moved on her belly.

“Somebody’s hungry,” he said, his voice gruff with sleep.

Charley smiled. Everything about this man was sexy. “Yes. That repugnant meal at the hospital was a long time ago.”

His fingertips brushed the underside of her breast. “I could use some chow myself,” he murmured.

Desire pooled between her legs. She couldn’t believe she was ready to go again, but she was. She rubbed her butt against his erection. “Breakfast would be nice.”

A low-level groan sounded beside her ear. Dog’s fingers slid up between her breasts and snagged her chin. He turned her head toward his and caught her gaze. “Gotta feed my woman.”

Charley’s heart tripped in her chest. My woman. Those words melted over her like butter on hot grits and were far more delicious.

He grazed her lips with his. “You gonna shower?”

She was lost in his chocolate eyes, which were filled with something soft and luscious. Something she was scared to label but looked a lot like affection. Deep affection. Possibly more.

“I’d like to but…would you join me?”

The erection lodged between her lower cheeks swelled. “Under normal circumstances, hell, yes. But today, no. You need food. I’m gonna make sure you get it in a timely manner, so that means no doing doubles in the shower.” He grinned, and it was one of the predatory ones. “I’ll take a raincheck.”

That thought sent a shiver through Charley, and Dog laughed. “Go get in the shower before I change my mind.”

“Wouldn’t be the worst thing,” she grumbled as she climbed out of the bed. “There’s a Keurig in the kitchen if you want some coffee. Pods in the cabinet above the machine. Powdered creamer and sugar, too.”

She wasn’t really embarrassed by nudity, but she couldn’t help a glance over her shoulder to see if he was watching.
